Dear President Barack Obama,
Please gently remind Prime Minister Stephen Harper that Canadian national Omar Khadr is in Guantanamo Bay.
If you don't bring up the subject of Omar Khadr, Mr. Harper won't.
Perhaps your moral suasion will cause Mr. Harper to change his mind on Khadr. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Corporal Paul Demetrick.

Just last week I was sitting beside a pool, watching the Caribbean Sea. While the pool water was calm, the sea was sending powerful waves crashing onto the coral shore. Why, I wondered. And I realized; it was the moon. So I want to suggest that you harness the enormous power that a moon creates. And that is the key point; it creates power. And clean power. Niagara Falls, Hoover Dam, etc. are engineering marvels that really only harness nature's power. And it's clean power when it uses the force that our earth provides.
Why not challenge your generation, like FDR, like Kennedy, and declare that both east coast and west coast of America will have x% of their power come from the ocean tides. And since it's an American initiative of National Security, we'll all understand why all the technology, production, etc. be under American control. So back to the pool; without a moon's gravitational pull, the oceans just sit. But with a moon's gravitational pull, there are permannet currents off both coasts. Can we take what nature has given us? Can you challenge us to harness it? And if we can succeed, both coastlines of the continental United States will be energy secure.
We are a fortunate planet to have a moon that creates power.

I am so glad that you are in power. I feel a shift in the enery already.
I am a poet and wrote a poem called hope in 2004 that I would like to share with you at this time.
Hope
Twilight shines as a mirror,
Reflecting hope.
A ray of sun rises through the rain clouds.
A promise of tomorrow in a land full of despair.
Multi color rainbows fill the rain drenched skies.
Giving a chance for tomorrow.
In a world full of frustration and pain.
Nature’s majesty will always show
HOPE

Even though we have a Conservative Government, it's only because the right merged parties to beat our first past the post system. 62% of us rejected the right wing vote and hopefully, with you in power, that will be reflected in even bigger numbers next election.
Please take anything Harper says with a grain of salt. He's working for his party and friends, not Canadians.
Enjoy our great country! If I were American, I would have voted for you!

Welcome to Canada! In all my years watching election coverages, I can honestly say I was so excited to watch the past American elections, debates, etc. You stood out from the others because you are down to earth, a true gentleman, and you speak from your soul. Watching election night was exciting, I wouldn't have missed it for anything. Congratulations Mr. President, a well deserved honour for you to have been chosen to represent your Country. In these difficult times for everyone due to the economy, people want comfort and want someone who will step up to the plate to help as much as they can to humanly help. God Bless you, your family and your staff.

Dear Mr. Obama,
I just want to say keep canada a close friend!! when your country talks about trade and the auto industry. I work for a manufacturer that supplies GM, Crysler and Ford we dont want to lose our job, we are all on edge to see what happens. Also the boarder has to be strong, but for normal canadians we should not have a harder time getting across in longer delays and veical checks and passorts just to get across to spend our money i think it should be a little easer like Americans coming into Canada, don't you agree?
Other then that Keep up the great work.

Dear President Obama,
Why can't America adopt the Canadian Healthcare system, Banking system, and even our Income Tax system? It would be less strenuous on the American People.
First, I want to congratulate you on your successful campaign and becoming the first African-American President in the United States of America. May you, your family and your country be blessed by the Almighty Creator. I know that you are most busy with the heavy burdens that you acquired from the previous government, but I must tell you that we in Canada and the world are rooting for you. I know that you have a good and brave heart and you will bring peace to the world, because you understand. Being from the background that you are - black and white, Christian & Muslim descent, you are the best person for these times. I am afraid when I see you go into the crowds - Ghandi did that. I want you to stay safe, eat well, sleep well, and continue with your exercise - your health is most important with two little ones and your wife to live for - and us too who wish you well. I hope to meet you one day - that is my desire. Your picture is at my desk for inspiration, of course - one of your family too. I bought your books this past week end and am looking forward to reading them. I am glad that I had this opportunity to express my feelings as I feel that I know you - but then the whole world does, but I am special… you could pass for my little brother. You do resemble your maternal grandfather. I have to leave work now to buy a lottery ticket before the store closes, so good luck, best wishes and take care.
Love Fay.

Dear President Barack Obama,
Thanks so very much for making Canada your first foreign visit since becoming President. The bond between America and Canada is one of the world’s greatest friendships, and I look forward to your leadership strengthening these ties to the benefit of both nations, as well as the rest of the world, in the years ahead.
But it seems that America has lost its way in many respects during recent years, a situation which you have been bold enough to address openly, both before and after your election.
My own views are that America, in its time of crisis, can learn a great deal from Canada.
The first example I wish to address is in the banking and financial sector, where our country has only five very large banks, which are all very strong, and which are closely regulated, for their own protection, as well as that of depositors, other customers, shareholders, and other stakeholders. A strong, stable banking system is fundamental to a nation’s prosperity and development. It takes an Act of Parliament to start a new bank in Canada. Our banking system has been ranked as the best in the world, a wonderful bulwark protecting our nation against the financial crises currently endangering the world’s economy. So my advice to you would be, as soon as possible, to enact American legislation to rationalize, merge, and combine all the American banks into about 40 to 50 large, stable, and strong financial institutions, and to regulate all of their dealings closely, so that beneficial conditions exist to protect all stakeholders, not just those people who occupy the corner offices. I would also advise you to move towards limiting executive compensation for the entire banking and financial sectors.
I think you are certainly on the right track when you look to Canada’s health care system for a way to improve the situation for the tens of millions of Americans who lack even basic health insurance. Over time, the American system could be transformed into something similar to what Canada currently has, but please don’t overlook the best elements of what other advanced nations have achieved in health care, either.
America has been a beacon of hope for millions of immigrants during the past three centuries, setting an outstanding example to the rest of the world, and transforming history with its welcome to so many distressed souls. In my view, Canada’s current prosperity can be linked to its more accessible immigration policy, where we attract outstanding quality immigrants to move here. America’s problems with illegal immigration are divisive and damaging. Declaring amnesty for those who are now illegally in the country would be an outstanding humanitarian action, and would probably actually benefit your nation’s economy in the long run, since those people, most of whom are hard-working and ambitious, would then be paying taxes to support services, once they are actually registered and part of the system.
When it comes to its relations with the rest of the world, America has perhaps its biggest challenges. Many grave mistakes have been made in the past eight years. These wounds will not be quick to heal, but I believe that a forthright, honest approach undertaken by your team will eventually restore the once-great name which America held.
I want to wish you the very best of luck and skill in your term as President, as you face unprecedented challenges with a spirit that seems to appraise every problem as an opportunity to improve. You have been an inspiration to me, as you have to many millions around the world. I will certainly be making a greater commitment to public service, having seen your brilliant example.
And please, make your next visit to Canada a longer one!!
Sincerely,

Dear Obama,
Hello, my message for you simple and one I think everyone could take to heart in times like these. I do hope you will always think freely, do not restict yourself with the ideals of today or the changes that may come tomorrow. Because with each passing second the world grows older and what seems to be closer inways. Let the only restrictions on your mind be the task at hand, there is no need for the handiecap of tomorrows worries when one is solving todays issues.
Thank you for your time

President Obama - please take note:
We Canadians are not all like P.M. Harper, many of us are disgusted with the Tar Sands, for one thing.
Some other things I would like Pres. Obama to do:
- End the War on Drugs, especially where people of color are locked up for non-violent drug offences, and where medical marijuana is criminalised.
- Tax on Wealth, as promised? and eliminating tax havens.
- Ending incentives for coal-burning power plants.
- Reducing, or at least stop increasing, greenhouse gas emissions from America [and stop using the immature excuse of "ya well but THEY have to stop it FIRST"]
- End the U.S. subsidies for cotton and other crops that causes the destructive trade disadvantage for African agricultural products.
- Stop helping repressive regimes in foreign nations by buying their oil or selling them military hardware [Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, etc.]
- Foreign Policy will improve if you follow your heart and ignore the warmongers.
Thanks, and have a nice visit to Canada.

Send Omar Khadr home to Canada now! Canadians want him home.
(Stephen Harper is participating in child abuse by refusing to bring this child soldier home for healing.)
Do NOT condone the Tar Sands. This is the most destructive oil extraction anywhere. Canadians want to leave a healthy environment for our grandchildren and future generations.
Close nuclear plants and coal plants. Go for renewables. Demonstrate integrity.

Dear President Obama,
Thank you for being the President of Change! Please continue to do everything you can to move the world towards peace! The military must be used to keep the peace and not to initiate or maintain war. I fully support your concern for the wellbeing of the environment. Canada and the US must work together for the betterment of the world.
Best regards,

I am writing to congratulate you on your inauguration as President of the United States and to raise several priorities that hold great meaning for my family and me.
* Ending the Darfur Genocide: As a vital part of the growing genocide-prevention movement, Armenian Americans and all people of good conscience look forward to working with you from the first day of your Administration to end the Darfur Genocide and to help bring peace to Sudan. I urge you to act decisively on this urgent matter.
* Standing up for the Truth: I encourage you to continue energetically working toward Congressional commemoration, Presidential recognition, and Turkish acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide. As you have stated so eloquently and repeatedly, the facts of this crime are undeniable and should be recognized by the United States. I look forward to your straight-forward condemnation of the 1915-1923 crime of race extermination by Ottoman Turkey that killed one and a half million Armenians, emptied vast areas of the Armenian homeland, and inflicted grave material harm to every aspect of the Armenian people's cultural heritage, depriving it, to this day, of its right to exist on its native soil. The Armenian people deserve, and the conscience of humanity, demands a just resolution of this crime.
* Rejecting Foreign Pressure: The clarity of your promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide is particularly welcome in light of the unfortunate practice of past Presidents to use, under Turkey's pressure, evasive and euphemistic terminology rather than directly acknowledging the Armenian Genocide. Clearly, for reasons of morality, respect for historical integrity, and the imperative of genocide-prevention, the term Armenian Genocide is the only one that can meaningfully be used to characterize the crime committed by Ottoman Turkey.
* Calling for Change: Sadly, Turkey’s refusal to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide has contributed to its inability to adapt to the changing realities in the region. Rather than being a factor for peace, Turkey, as a result of its denials and other antagonistic policies, has actively contributed to increased tension and division in South Caucasus. Instead of demonstrating a willingness to honestly confront the past in the spirit of truth and justice, its leaders have sought instead to pressure other governments to underwrite Turkey's historic guilt. The United States should neither be a hostage to Turkey’s fears, nor a victim of its moral failings.
Strengthening U.S.-Armenia Ties and Promoting Peace: I look forward to your concerted efforts on the broad range of issues of concern to Armenian Americans, including, of course:
* Building stronger U.S.-Armenia economic, political, military, development, and cultural relations.
* Strengthening Armenia through increased aid, trade, and economic cooperation.
* Lifting the Turkish and Azerbaijani economic blockades of Armenia
* Fostering a durable regional peace based on a Nagorno Karabagh settlement that respects democracy and self-determination.
I am particularly encouraged that you will be joined in your Administration by longtime friends of Armenia and supporters of Armenian Genocide recognition, among them Vice President-elect Joe Biden, a 35-year champion of this human rights issue, and Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton. Others in your Administration, including incoming Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and CIA Director Leon Panetta have also supported Congressional recognition of the Armenian Genocide. I am also pleased to see that the Congress will be led by two of the most vocal and longstanding advocates of the Armenian Genocide Resolution, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, both of whom have repeatedly called for full and proper U.S. recognition of this crime against humanity.
Thank you for your consideration of my concerns and for working closely, as President, with the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), which, as you know, endorsed you in January of 2008 and led the Armenian American community in energetically supporting your candidacy throughout your long campaign for the White House.
Sincerely,
Albert Gabri - Woodland Hills, CA
Welcome to Canada President Obama,
Thank you for saying yes to the call to leadership at this time in history. Thank you for doing all that you can to create a world of justice and peace in which all may be safe including our planet.
Even though climate change that breeds poverty is the most urgent issue may I dare with thousands of human beings throughout the world that War is not the “change we can believe in.”
Please reconsider your decision to send tens of thousands more U.S. soldiers to Afghanistan. Changing one war for another will bring more and more suffering and death to more and more lives not to mention the planet, our mother earth that our children and grandchildren will inherit. Military power is no solution to terrorism. Active peacemaking is the only solution. Use this time to create peace.
You are probably aware of the blueprint from “Sept. 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows”
Please do everything you can to :
1. Set a swift timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO military forces, to be substituted by U.N. forces for short-term security.
2. Immediately cease air strikes on targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
3. Support negotiations between all parties involved in the conflict, including Afghan women leaders.
4. Reform humanitarian aid and reconstruction funding efforts to prioritize Afghan organizations over foreign contractors. Ensure that funded projects address the needs and requests of afghans and are not simply pet projects of foreign donors.
5. Invest in long-term aid that increase self-reliance such as sustainable agriculture efforts.
6. Immediately discontinue the use of Provincial Reconstruction teams, which are costly, inefficient, and have militarized the aid process.
7. Standardize, increase, and publicly document compensation to Afghan families and communities affected by U.S (and Canada) military actions.
8. Sign the treaty to ban cluster bombs, pay for cluster bomb and landmine cleanup in Afghanistan, and pledge never to use these weapons again.
You, Micelle and your daughters are in my daily prayer,
Maura McGrath

Dear Mr. President,
My name is Stephainie Hart. I am the lower-middle class mother of two boys and wife of an amazing husband. We know all to well what lies ahead if the world doesnt act now.
I understand that as an American (and not world) President that your primary focus is to ensure that life is there in the years to come for your country. I know you get that the world looks to you to solve ALL our problems.
I am asking from one parent to another, that you take this opportunity to squash the ideas that problems are caused and solved individually. I ask that you encourage everyone you can to understand that we face the problems and situations we do because of each other and the "me, me,me" ideas. That the only way we will save ourselves is to go back to the ideas of families, communities and civilizations.
I really believe the only way we will resolve the economic crisis that is upon us all is to help the environment. We must focus on "green" and "eco-friendly" jobs/general ways of doing business. It truly is a scary thing to go online day after day and see the news stories of the failing government and how close to the end we may very well be because our home, our planet is desperately sick.
I promise as a voice for my family that we will do all we can to help. We need the world to change though. And now. You seem to be the only voice most people listen to. Follow your heart always in every decision you make, President Obama. Do all you can to make others understand that you cant save us by yourself.
Sincerely,
Stephainie Hart
